A Powerless Valving System for Fluid Flow in Paper Networks

چکیده
This paper presents a powerless valving system for fluid flow in two-dimensional paper networks (2DPN) using swellable polymer actuators. The valving system is based on solvent-triggered expansion of strategically-located expanding polymer actuators; both physically disconnected paper channels that become connected (on-switch) and connected paper channels that become disconnected (off-switch) were developed. , Onand off-switches were combined and simultaneously activated by the expansion of a single actuator, effecting diversion of flow from one channel of the network to another. This valving system enhances the utility of the 2DPN technology, enabling the performance of many autonomous integrated chemical processes.

In this paper, steady flow of a third-grade fluid in a porous half space has been considered. This problem is a nonlinear two-point boundary value problem (BVP) on semi-infinite interval. The solution for this problem is given by a numerical method based on the feed-forward artificial neural network model using radial basis activation functions trained with an interior point method. ...

Optical methods for microfluidic flow manipulation offer a flexible, noncontact technique for both fluid actuation and valving. At present, however, such techniques are limited by their high laser power requirements, low achieved flow rates, or poor valve switching times. Here we demonstrate a microfluidic valving technique based on optothermorheological manipulation using a low-power 40 mW las...

In this work, for better understanding of drug delivery systems, blood flow over a ceramic nanoparticle is investigated through microvessels. Drug is considered as a nanoparticle coated with the rigid ceramic. Due to the low characteristic size in the microvessel, the fluid flow is not continuum and the no-slip boundary condition cannot be applied. To solve this problem lattice Boltzmann method...

On-chip genetic analysis systems are beginning to provide a viable alternative to conventional gene profiling and amplification devices, through minimal reagent use, high detection resolution, and the potential for high-throughput parallel testing of the genetic material, even from single cells. Despite the advantages, there are many difficulties inherent in creating an integrated microfluidic ...
